Local MP Greg Barker visited Battle Speakers club on 4th February.  The Club invited the public to this one-off, non-politicial event and you can see how it went on our Club History Page

Let’s do business Facebook speaker credits local speaking club

An internet expert, who spoke to packed rooms at the recent Hastings Let’s Do Business exhibition alongside Facebook UK’s Head of Internal Sales, Josh Smith, thanked a local speaking club for giving him the confidence to speak in front of an audience on the club’s first anniversary.  Battle Speakers is part of Toastmasters International, which has supportive speaking clubs all over the world.  Local businessman Jason Rudland, an internet consultant with Get Me in Google! (www.gmig.co.uk) used to be terrified of presenting.  “I was the last person to speak in front of a group” he said.  “I credit Toastmasters with giving me the skills and confidence to stand in front of people and now hire myself out as a speaker.”

Jason is not alone in having feared public speaking.  Surveys often show it as the number one fear.  He has three tips for speakers: join Battle Speakers, practice over and over again, and have more material than you need to combat the fear of going blank!  He continues to go to Battle Speakers because of its friendly, encouraging environment.  The Club celebrated its first birthday on 6 November with another fun, and interesting programme.

Battle Speakers isn’t just for the business speaker.  It welcomes those who want to increase their self-confidence, learn new communication skills or simply have a fun evening out.

Guests are always welcome to visit on a club evening, at no cost.  The Club welcomes beginner and experienced speakers and meets on the first and third Thursdays of the month at the offices of Global Reinsurance Consultants Limited, Market Place, Battle, TN33 0XB from 7.15 - 9.45 pm.
